2 Corinthians 2:14-16 (New King James Version)
14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. 15 For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. 16 To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life.
Ephesians 5:2 (New King James Version)
2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
What type of fragrance are you giving off? Is it a sweet smelling aroma or a foul stench? Is the smell you offer up to God, pleasing or offensive? In other words, are you a TRUE believer, or do you just CALL yourself one? (Matthew 7:16-23)
Not sure? Let me go a bit deeper. How are you living your life? On God’s terms in accordance with the Bible; or on your own, the world’s or the enemy’s terms? How do you react to negativity or when angered? What do you do when you hear gossip? Do you join in or walk away from it? Where do you hang out at? With whom do you hang out with? What kind of thoughts are you thinking? What are you speaking? Are you building others up or tearing them down? How do you spend your money? What do you do when you think no one is watching?
The answer to these types of questions, will determine the type of fragrance you are offering up to God! The way you treat others is the way you are treating God! (Matthew 25:45) If others are growing closer to the Lord and learning godly principles from you and they want to be around you because they can see the Christ shining through you; then you are giving off and offering up a pleasant, sweet smelling fragrance to God! But if you are leading people down the wrong path full of drinking/drunkenness, smoking/getting high, sexual immorality, lying, cheating, cursing, etc., then you are giving off and offering up a foul, nasty aroma to God! (Galatians 5:19)
However, the sweet smelling fragrance that God and those seeking a closer walk with the Lord will love, will be a horrific stench in the nostrils of those who don’t want to grow or change! Those who are children of the enemy will not want to be around you! Smelling your sweet fragrance, will cause them to flee from the smell! Why? Because that ‘smell’ you are burning off is the smell of conviction for those in error! They cannot stand it! So just be encouraged when you are trying to live a godly life, and those who you used to hang around, reject you! It’s all good! It’s a sign of GROWTH!
Let us examine our hearts, so that we can be sure to give God and others our best! Let us offer them a sweet smelling sacrifice-like the smell of freshly baked bread that will keep them coming back for more; and that will keep GOD using us to be a blessing in the lives of many! Let them ask: WHAT IS THAT SMELL?!!! OH, IT SMELLS SOOOOO GOOD!!!! UMMMMM!
