WHAT ABOUT ME?!!
1 Corinthians 3:3 (Amplified Bible)
3For you are still [unspiritual, having the nature] of the flesh [under the control of ordinary impulses]. For as long as [there are] envying and jealousy and wrangling and factions among you, are you not unspiritual and of the flesh, behaving yourselves after a human standard and like mere (unchanged) men?
Deuteronomy 4:24 (Amplified Bible)
24For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

J-E-A-L-O-U-S-Y- As I wrote those letters, the Spirit brought my attention to the last 5 letters. It spells out 'lousy.' Interesting, because jealousy is lousy; and it makes not only the jealous person feel lousy, but the person the jealous person is jealous of!
Let me ask you a few questions: Have you ever wanted something or someone else so badly, that you would do almost anything to get it? Have you ever resented someone for having something or someone you wanted? Ever question God, asking Him why that person has what you want? "Why not ME, Lord?" Ever turned your back on someone because you couldn't stand to see them blessed?
If you've answered 'yes' to any of those questions, you have experienced jealousy!
Like with all other emotions, not all forms of jealousy is bad! God is a jealous God, after all! But this type of jealousy, is justified! It is a righteous jealousy! He is the Creator of ALL things (including us), so when we choose anything or anyone over Him, He certainly has good cause to be jealous!
Let me give you an example from a human standpoint of righteous jealousy: A married woman notices a woman hanging all over her husband. Her husband seems to be enjoying the attention. She feels jealous and goes over to them, pulls her husband to the side to speak to him about how this makes her feel. Now this could play out MANY different ways of course and we all have many different viewpoints on how this should be handled, BUT the point is distinguishing between good and bad jealousy. In this case, she was PROTECTING her marriage! And keep in mind, that there is a THIN line between what is right and what is wrong! Let's say she instead of speaking to her husband about this, decides to take a gun and shoot the woman! Now her righteous jealousy has turned into unjustifiable jealousy because she took it way too far and killed the woman! See why it's often called 'the green eyed monster?!'
Jealousy in it's evil form, can hold you in bondage and hinder the Lord's blessings from flowing through you and to you! I'm speaking about that jealousy that makes you dislike a person because they have something you don't, or because they have someone you want; that jealousy that will cause you to gossip and spread lies about a person to try to make them look bad to others; yes that jealousy that will cause you to speak negative things to that person in an effort to discourage them or make them feel guilty in some way for being blessed.
Jealousy opens the door wide open to the enemy, and allows him to use us in ways that will wreak havoc in one's life, and put a curse upon our own lives! Oh he's crafty! He can 'kill 2 birds with one stone' if we aren't careful! He'll use us to destroy a person and in turn destroy ourselves because we reap what we sow!
If you find yourself jealous of someone, and not getting what you have asked of God, check your heart and ask the Lord to reveal to you if jealousy might be the hindrance. If so, be honest about it-confess it and ask the Lord to purge the jealousy from you so that He can use you and bless you abundantly!
Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. (Galatians 5:26)
If you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. (James 3:14-15)
For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. (James 3:16)
Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. (I Peter 2:1)
