Many people take certain bible Scriptures out of context. For example {John 14:14} is one that is commonly misunderstood. Here Jesus says:
"IF YOU ASK {ANYTHING} IN MY NAME, I WILL DO IT."
When Jesus says that if we ask "ANYTHING" in "HIS NAME," we will receive it, He's NOT speaking of just adding {"THIS I PRAY, IN THE NAME OF JESUS,"} at the end of our prayers. "IN HIS NAME" means "IN ALIGNMENT WITH HIS WILL."
We must learn to read the SURROUNDING text, (and other relatable Scriptures) to get the FULL understanding. This Scripture was talking about us being able to ask Him for anything that will help us in our {WORK FOR GOD,} not necessarily MATERIAL BLESSINGS; although they can apply too, if they align with His will for us.
But don't take MY word for it. Let's see what the BIBLE says:
{John 14:10}- DO YOU NOT BELIEVE THAT I AM IN THE FATHER, AND THE FATHER IN ME? THE WORDS THAT I SPEAK TO YOU {I DO NOT SPEAK ON MY OWN AUTHORITY}; BUT THE FATHER WHO DWELLS IN ME DOES {THE WORKS}.
{John 14:12-13}- “Most assuredly, I say to you, HE WHO BELIEVES IN ME, {THE WORKS} THAT I DO HE WILL DO ALSO; and {GREATER WORKS} THAN THESE HE WILL DO, because I go to My Father. AND WHATEVER YOU ASK IN MY NAME, THAT I WILL DO, THAT THE FATHER MAY BE GLORIFIED IN THE SON.
{John 14:20-21}- At that day you will know that I AM IN MY FATHER, AND YOU IN ME, AND I IN YOU. {HE WHO HAS MY COMMANDMENTS AND KEEPS THEM}, IT IS HE WHO LOVES ME. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
(emphasis added, mines)
So you see, just as JESUS DID NOTHING UNDER HIS OWN AUTHORITY but only that which the Father instructed Him to do {see also John 5:19}, we are to do nothing on our OWN, but that which aligns with GOD'S WILL, as the Holy Spirit leads us. That way, WHATEVER WE ASK, we are guaranteed to get!
{1 John 5:14}- Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that IF WE ASK ANYTHING {ACCORDING TO HIS WILL}, He hears us. (emphasis added, mines)
God loves us way too much to give us ANYTHING we ask (as soon as we ask for it), because He knows that many things could end up destroying us!
For example, let's say we pray for a bigger house, but the house costs much more than we can afford. Would it be a blessing if we got the house and left the home we currently have, only to move into the new house and end up losing it in a year, because we can't afford it?! Now we have no home at all!!!
{SO LET'S BE CAREFUL WHAT WE ASK FOR, AND THANKFUL THAT WE DON'T GET EVERYTHING WE ASK FOR! FATHER KNOWS WHAT WE NEED, WHEN WE NEED IT!!!} Selah.
