MAKE ROOM FOR JESUS

MAKE ROOM FOR JESUS

Luke 2:7 (New King James Version)

And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because THERE WAS NO ROOM FOR THEM in the inn.

This is the busiest time of year! With one holiday quickly following another, we can so easily get distracted with shopping, cooking, visiting friends and family, and everything else that comes our way. In fact, we become so busy that we often times forget what's MOST important- JESUS! Take a look:

Matthew 13:55-58 (New King James Version)

Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?” So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A PROPHET IS NOT WITHOUT HONOR EXCEPT IN HIS OWN COUNTRY AND IN HIS OWN HOUSE." Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

And take note, that from His birth (see today's opening Scripture) until His death, there was no room for Him!

Matthew 27:57-60 (New Living Translation)

As evening approached, Joseph, a rich man from Arimathea who had become a follower of Jesus,  went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. And Pilate issued an order to release it to him. Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a long sheet of clean linen cloth. He placed it in his own new tomb, which had been carved out of the rock. Then he rolled a great stone across the entrance and left.

*Note: Jesus didn't even have His own tomb to be buried in!

So as you can see from the above Scriptures, Jesus was never the most important thing on people's minds! The Creator of the universe..... The Son of God Who left His home in Heaven, to come down to this corrupted earth; to save mankind and set us free from an eternity in hell, is too often the last thing on our minds!
We separate our lives into little boxes: work, family, fun, church, etc. And in so doing, we've taken Him out of everything except for church on Sunday mornings! Yes, we have taken Him out of our schools. We've taken Him out of our marriages. We've taken Him out of our daily chores. We've taken Him out of our recreational activities....and we set Him aside for 2 hours on Sunday! We don't realize that He wants to be a part of everything that concerns us!  But as soon as we run into any type of trouble in any area of our lives, He is often the first One whose name we call out! "OH JESUS, HELP ME!" Hmmm...

As we go about our days, we can take time to offer Him praises! We can thank Him as we are driving in our cars to work, as we go grocery shopping, as we are playing with our children and doing daily chores! We can take time to listen to God even as we sit on the toilet! Make Him a part of every aspect of your life!

Even those of us in ministry positions, far too often are doing His work, but not working for Him! We 'bite off more than we can chew,' and become so stressed out until we make ourselves sick! That is what happens when we become some engulfed in the cares of the world, but don't STOP to take time out for Him! We even become so caught up in ministry, that we forget that in order to be effective for Christ, we have to keep Him at the center! We have to be sure that we are doing what He has asked us to do, and not what we ourselves, or others expect us to do! If Jesus made it a point to spend time alone with the Father, how much more should we make time for Him?! (Luke 6:12)

So in closing, I will leave you to meditate upon this:

Luke 10:38-42 (New Living Translation)

As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Please make sure that you aren't too busy for Jesus! There should be nothing or no one that is more important to you than Jesus! Had it not been for Him, you wouldn't have those 'important' things and people in your life to begin with! If you are too busy to take time out each day for Him, then you are just plain, too busy! MAKE ROOM FOR JESUS!

  2. Hey sis!

Amen & AMEN!!! First, like you said, this is a hectic season. Here, in Winnipeg, WINTER-peg, more like. The snow is HERE! And, with SNOW comes CHRISTMAS, where any real understanding of the DAY is buried under a mound merchandising until Christmas becomes no more than a time to eat too much, drink too much and SPEND ourselves into another mountain of credit card debt.

I was listening to a song from a radio station that is playing ALL Christmas music until Boxing day, and heard the song, "Where are You, Christmas?" from The Grinch (Jim Carrey version).

"Where are you, Christmas? Why can't I find you? Why have you gone away? ...." The answer to that question is found in how we treat the day. I've heard tell that many merchants won't allow their staff to use the greeting, "MERRY CHRISTMAS" because it might OFFEND someone another religious group or those who are atheists. In many cities, the Nativity Scene is illegal because it violates the 'Separation of Church and State'. End Result? We are making a huge fuss about a reindeer with a red nose, (permanent frost bite or does Rudolf have issues with alcohol?) and a guy (SANTA) whose identity was stretched of all proportion, from the actual man (St. Nicolas) whose generosity assisted his community. The man, himself, would be whole-heartedly disgusted in the way his reputation has been warped in order to feed our rampant materialism!

THIS is what comes of leaving NO ROOM for JESUS!

Passed the fuss of the holidays, our everyday living, even for Christians, is busy in work and the other issues of life. We have compartmentalized Jesus into a two hour day of the week, rather than inviting Him to share and assist us in our week. Jesus would be only TOO happy to speak with us at work, as we need help and peace from stress. But we're too worried about OFFENDING those who don't share our Faith.

Ooops! I seem to have launched into my own article. SORRY. But you're so right! The Lord has been with me at work; giving me the patience I need. Still, I need to spend more time, asking for the Lord's help as I go into the Word. I need to remind myself to ask for that guidance before I start reading. I'm starting to understand the meaning of the phrase, 'Reading PRAYERFULLY'.

Thank you, LaTanya, for your inspired writings!
