PLEASE CHANGE "THEM" LORD!

PLEASE CHANGE 'THEM' LORD!

Jeremiah 17:9 (Amplified Bible)

9The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly perverse and corrupt and severely, mortally sick! Who can know it [perceive, understand, be acquainted with his own heart and mind]?

Have you ever had a person in your life that really got under your skin? No matter what you did to try to get along with them, they found a way to mess it up?! Did you find yourself at any point, praying: "PLEASE CHANGE THEM LORD?!"

Sounds familiar, huh? I know that I can't tell you how many times I've prayed that prayer-especially in regards to my husband! You see, a lot of the times that person that can truly get to you like nobody else can, is someone closest to you! They know exactly what buttons to push to set you over the edge! But you know, the crazy thing about this is that each and every time I prayed this prayer, the Lord said, "I'm going to change YOU!" Of course that took me completely by surprise, because God could clearly see that the problem here wasn't me! He could see what was going on and how my husband was behaving! Right?!!

Well the Lord had to remind me that I was so busy looking at the plank in my husband's eyes (or whoever it was getting on my nerves at the moment), that I was completely blinded by the log stuck in my own! (Matthew 7:1-5) You see, we have a tendency to be able to see others through a magnifying glass, but ourselves, through rose colored glasses! Everything others do 'wrong' is magnified in our minds; and we dwell on that so much until that negative seed is planted and takes root in our minds! Then we reap a bountiful harvest of bitterness, anger, un-forgiveness, disharmony, disunity, division, discord, etc.

But if we could just stop for a second, and take that magnifying glass off of others, and place it upon our own heart, we may be shocked what we find! We may realize that we have been deceiving ourselves for a long time! This can be very painful at first; after all, the truth does hurt, doesn't it? But we shall be set free, if we are willing to accept it, confess it, repent of it, and let it go! We have to be willing to change and to allow the Lord to do a mighty work within us! And if you think this message isn't for you, if you think you have arrived; your heart is really deceiving you!

So maybe now we can be honest and admit that we have issues too! We are all works in progress. If we can grasp this truth, than maybe we can be more understanding of others! We may be able to allow others to make mistakes every once in awhile without condemning them for it! Maybe....just maybe, our prayers can be "PLEASE CHANGE 'ME' LORD!"
